Patient Instructions for Microneedling
Optimal preparation is key to maximizing the effectiveness of your microneedling treatment and ensuring a successful outcome. Here’s how to prepare:
Preparing for Your Treatment
- Shield Your Skin from the Sun: Keep your skin safe from the sun’s rays. Avoid tanning and sunbathing for one week prior to your treatment to ensure a smooth recovery post-treatment.
- Pause Exfoliants and Harsh Products: A week before your appointment, it’s time to say a temporary goodbye to your chemical peels and abrasive exfoliants. Topical retinoids need to be avoided for at least 24 hours prior to each treatment. This will help keep your skin calm and collected for what’s ahead.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment to ensure your skin is well-hydrated.

Post-Treatment Care:
Proper aftercare following a microneedling session is crucial for achieving the best outcomes and facilitating a quick and smooth recovery. Adhere to the following guidelines.
- Sun Protection: Shield the treated area from the sun for three days after each session. Apply a high-SPF, broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen daily to protect your skin and prevent hyperpigmentation.
- Embrace Gentle Care: Switch to mild, soothing skincare products. Harsh chemicals or exfoliating agents should be avoided for at least 6 days after each session or until the skin has completely healed. Apply a fragrance-free, gentle moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated and support the healing process.
- Keep the Skin Clean: Maintain cleanliness in the treated area but avoid aggressive scrubbing. Use a gentle cleanser to help prevent any irritation.
- Resist Touching the Treated Area: Avoid picking at or scratching the skin as it heals.
- Avoid Makeup and Sweaty Activities: Wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup and three days before participating in activities that induce sweating to ensure optimal healing conditions.
