3 family-friendly spring break ‘staycation’ destinations
Spring break looks a little different these days, doesn’t it?
Instead of mixing margaritas, you’re making your own stuffed animals or racing micromachines.
And since you’re still a fun parent, aunt, uncle, nonny, or pop-pop—you’re all about having a fun-filled adventure with the kids. You know, somewhere exciting but without having to travel to all ends of the earth. A one-day, one-night road trip, perhaps, that won’t disappoint.
We’ve been there! So much so that we’ve put together a short list of places you can go for a family-friendly weekend in Western New York or the Southern Tier.
Here’s what we’re thinking:
Science, diners, and dives in Buffalo, NY
GO: Buffalo Museum of Science
Explore the immersive (and astounding) world of virtual reality at the “Reinventing Reality” exhibit from now until June.
EAT: Swan Street Diner
Pancakes? Hotcakes? Flapjacks? Stack ‘em up and mow ‘em down in an authentic diner car that was built in 1937.
SLEEP: Courtyard by Marriott Buffalo Downtown/Canalside
Take a dip in the pool. Have a soak in the hot tub. Kick back and relax after a great day of food and fun in downtown Buffalo.
A day of play in Rochester, NY
GO: The Strong National Museum of Play
Spend the entire day (seriously, like all day) exploring this highly interactive museum of play in downtown Rochester.
EAT: Chick’n Out
What kid doesn’t love chicken tenders or mac and cheese? Get them both (and more) at this fried chicken hot spot in ROC City.
SLEEP: Hilton Garden Inn Rochester Downtown
It’s been a long (but super fun) day. Get some R&R at Tripadvisor’s top-ranked hotel for families in Rochester.
Creative arts and coffee in Corning, NY
GO: Kids Rockwell Art Lab
Enjoy authentic, unplugged play at this interactive family studio right around the corner from Corning’s historic Rockwell Museum.
EAT: Old World Café
Fresh roasted coffee and gourmet soups for you. Old-fashioned candy and ice cream for the kids. All within a Victorian ice cream parlor.
SLEEP: Radisson Hotel Corning
Check into one of Tripadvisor’s best-reviewed hotels for families in Corning—just two blocks away from The Rockwell Museum.
Let’s hang out!
