5 CoolSculpting myths:
An interview with Kelley M. Paolini
Do you like to read about beauty, hair, skin care, or health and wellness? You may have heard about CoolSculpting.
CoolSculpting is a cutting-edge technology that eliminates stubborn fat safely and effectively—without surgery or downtime.
How?
The FDA-cleared procedure uses a carefully controlled cooling system to target and crystallize (freeze) fat cells. From there, your body naturally processes the fat and safely eliminates them from your system.
If using extreme temperatures to reduce body fat sounds strange to you, that’s fair. And if you have reservations about trying the technology for yourself, well, that’s fair, too. To put you at ease and help you feel comfortable exploring the procedure, our resident nurse and CoolSculpting expert, Kelley M. Paolini, is here.
As you will learn from Kelley, yes, CoolSculpting is safe. And yes, it really works.
Here are some popular CoolSculpting myths and explanations from a Q&A with our resident expert Kelley Paolini.
MYTH #1: CoolSculpting is painful.
Question: How does CoolSculpting facilitate a relatively pain-free process?
Answer: It is controlled cooling that freezes your fat cells. For me, the treatment didn’t hurt at all. It mostly felt like applying an ice pack to the areas that you are treating. You can expect to have mild numbness for about the three weeks post procedure in the area you had treated.
After the treatment, I didn’t experience any pain, and I was able to resume full activities. I have done this procedure more times than I can count and it has never slowed me down! Whether I have a busy day at work, attending an exercise class or running my kids to their extracurricular activities, the beauty of Coolsculpting is you can walk out and resume your normal activities as if you never had anything done!
MYTH #2: CoolSculpting is a weight-loss procedure.
Question: What is the difference between a weight-loss procedure and a fat-reduction procedure? What sort of results can patients expect from the procedure?
Answer: There is a misconception that weight loss and fat reduction are the same thing however, they are very different.
When we lose weight, our fat cells become smaller, but the number of fat cells remains the same. When we gain weight, those fat cells become larger again.
With CoolSculpting, it reduces the number of fat cells in the treated areas. And unlike weight loss procedures, results from the CoolSculpting procedure are lasting because once the fat cells are eliminated, they’re gone for good. Whether or not you weigh less, your clothes will fit better, feel better, and look better.

MYTH#4: CoolSculpting will provide immediate results.
Question: How many procedures does the average person need to see results, and what do they look like?
Answer: You see results 30-120 days after your very first treatment and you can expect to see up to 25% in reduction.
MYTH #5: CoolSculpting is right for everyone.
Question: What does the average CoolSculpting patient look like?
Answer: There is no average patient, individuals in all shapes and sizes can benefit from CoolSculpting!
