The SKINterview! A skin care conversation with Dr. Angela Barnes
Angela Barnes is a doctor of osteopathic medicine, a board member of Catholic Medical Partners, and a partner at Southgate Medical Group.
She’s also a proud mother of two who loves vacationing with her family, trying new restaurants, and enjoying a good glass of wine.
As part of our SKINterview series, we sat down to chat with Angela to see what she thinks about skin care trends, technologies, and so much more.
In this third and final SKINterview, Kelley touches on The Skin Center customer experience, reflects on patient interactions, and tackles common misconceptions in skin care.
Here’s what she has to say and how she can help YOU achieve ALL your skin care goals.
Which new technology are you most excited about for patients to experience at The Skin Center? Why?
Microneedling is our newest technology and overall it is just such a great skin treatment. It’s a great way to brighten the skin, improve texture, and pore size. I love it!
What is your most memorable patient interaction? What was their goal, how did you achieve it, and what was their response?
I‘ve had so many great patient interactions, it’s hard for me to pick just one! I am so fortunate to get to play a part in so many people’s lives where something as simple as a Botox or Dysport treatment not only smooths out a few lines, but allows them to regain some of their confidence back.
What can a patient expect from a consultation, and why is it such an important part of the process?
The most important part of a consultation is making sure the client is an ideal candidate for the treatment that they are interested in and setting realistic expectations for treatment outcomes.
Can you think of a time where a patient came in for one thing, but after a consultation, you helped them recognize that a different service would be better? What happened? How’d it go?
It’s very common for a patient to come in with one treatment in mind, but as we discuss their concerns and goals, I recommend a different treatment. This is another reason why a consultation is so important—so we make sure we’re helping a patient achieve their skin care goals.
When I am providing a consultation about facial fillers for facial lines and folds, I often explain other options like Sofwave, so the patient understands that there is some overlap in certain treatments. This gives them the opportunity to choose which one is best suited for them.
What are some misconceptions people have about Injectables? How might you debunk those ideas?
A misconception about injectables: It’s obvious when people have had injections because they look “frozen” and fake or puffy. Injectables help to smooth fine lines, folds and wrinkles and can be very subtle and natural. It is all about placement and the amount used to achieve this look.
